This well written group of short stories was published in 1919, so of course they are not politically correct. I believe it to be a fundamental error to attempt to judge one era by the standards of another. Get over it!Well written, clean and tight prose, these are lovely examples of early pulp fiction.

Tales of Chinatown 9781517334550 Books Reviews
I have read practically everything written by Sax Rohmer and this short story document is not as intriguing as his standard stories.
Rohmer reads like Louis Lamour. When you're done with one book, you want to read another. Read one soon, you'll like it.
Got it and loved it. Thanks for the addition to my library. Quick shipping too!
Great
I found each story intriguing and enjoyed the clever plots. Though, it did require from me more concentration to read this style.
was not as bothered by some by depictions of orientals. some prejudice but a product of the times. Just did not get into it.
If you read the biography of Sex Rohmer, one discovers that the writer was far from a bigot. Using the "Yellow Peril" myth, Rohmer writes, I believe, with an incredible respect for the Chinese people. There is a reverence for the Insidious Doctor, as a great genius. Indeed, the later novels have Dr. Fu Manchu as a collaborator with the Western powers against communism and fascism.
In Tales of Chinatown, the first tale is well-written with a sympathetic twist for the old Chinaman fence. Read and enjoy.
